After spending years in the basement of her parents’ house, shrewdly taking advantage of her family despite her weakness in academics, Haley Dunphy gradually matures as the series progresses, and exhibits responsibility and great talent as an assistant fashion designer, a social media influencer, and an artistic photographer. After a string of boyfriends from varying backgrounds—a dimwitted musician, an optimistic manny (male nanny), a weatherman, a two-time Vanderscoff Grant-winning teacher—Haley eventually marries her childhood sweetheart, Dylan.
The gorgeous Hyland, who never takes bad photos as Haley or herself, is one of today’s strongest women. At 28, she’s had 16 surgeries, six within the last two years, including her second kidney transplant and a laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, but she hasn’t let any of these slow her down or change her positive view on life. This role model is a fighter who won’t let her health conditions define who she is.
Like her TV parents, Hyland has received several awards and nominations, including the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and the Glamour Award for Comedy Actress.
