Romance On The High Seas, Doris Day (1948)

Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff, an American singer and actress, began her career as a big band singer before flying solo and recording over 650 songs in two decades. She started her career in motion pictures with the film Romance On The High Seas, and in the photo above, we see her rocking the maritime fashion trend with her nautical stripes and white trousers. The blazer draped over her shoulders just adds to her picture-perfect pose.
Doris Day was surprised she was cast as singer Georgia Garrett because despite being a vocalist, she had no acting experience. The director, Michael Curtiz, appreciated her honesty and gave Doris the All-American Girl role that launched her acting career. Doris was initially recognized as a musical-comedy actress, but she took on more roles to broaden her range, and she became one of the biggest film stars in the early 60s. She received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her lifetime achievement in motion pictures.
