Her Final Flight, Amelia Earhart (1937)

CDN

This is one of the last photos of the dauntless aviator Amelia Mary Earhart before she disappeared somewhere over the central Pacific Ocean, with navigator Fred Noonan, on July 2, 1937. Charismatic, independent, composed, courageous, determined, and goal-oriented, Amelia is regarded as a cultural feminist icon. Her accomplishments in aviation have inspired generations of female aviators and everyone else who dreams of reaching the stars.
Boarding a plane for the first time in 1920, and knowing then and there she had to fly, Amelia took her first flying lesson the following year and became the 16th woman to receive a pilot’s license in 1923. She made many records in aviation, including being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, the first woman to fly unaccompanied across the Atlantic, and the first person to fly solo across the Pacific. After she left Miami on June 1, 1937, she managed to complete 22,000 miles of what could’ve made her the first woman to circumnavigate the globe.
