There are lots of great photos of girls holding guns, but there’s something about these women in their knitted tops, pleated full skirts, and saddle shoes, cocking their rifles, that’s pretty badass. These women didn’t just pose with guns for fun, but they were trained to use them. Some of these women even worked in factories and tested the guns they made for the war. In the 1950s, fathers passed on the tradition of gun ownership and women carried and learned to use guns to protect their homes. In the United States, there are gun laws that regulate the manufacture, trade, and possession of firearms, and citizens, both men and women, are eligible to possess and own firearms, granted they’re not convicted fugitives, unlawful users of illicit drugs, or have been adjudicated mentally defective.
