Bald Beauties, The Romanov Sisters (1917)

Justastory

Talking about shaving off long locks of hair, all four grand duchesses, Anastasia, Tatiana, Olga, and Maria, started losing clumps of hair when they contracted measles while under house arrest. Their ever-practical mother, Alexandra, decided to shave their heads to help speed up their recovery and for a fresh start after their illness. Seeing the smiles on their faces, it appeared the Romanov sisters didn’t mind losing all their hair. The big fashionable hats most likely gave them a boost in confidence, too.
Alexandra wasn’t just no-nonsense when it came to health and hygiene. She set up a military hospital where Olga and Tatiana trained and worked as Red Cross nurses. Also, believing girls should always be busy, she taught her daughters to knit and sew dresses for their dolls at a young age. She even had them sew jewels into their dresses to potentially finance their rescue. Unfortunately, their “armored” clothing prolonged their ghastly fate as the initial hail of bullets ricocheted off the gems sewn into their outfits, and the guards had to finish them off, specifically Anastasia, by stabbing.
