Don’t Do These When Shaking Hands

The traditional form of greeting in the country, at least for the men, is a handshake. When first being introduced to someone, make sure you give a firm handshake while maintaining eye contact, and mentioning your full name. However, men don’t shake hands with women as this is not a custom. Women would usually lightly kiss on the cheek three times, starting with the left. Don’t shake with gloves on as well. Remove them before offering to shake someone’s hand. Finally, there’s also a belief in Ukraine to not shake hands over a threshold as this is considered bad luck. Wait for the person to come in, through the door or gate for example, before shaking hands.
