Don’t Pick Up That Wallet

When walking around Kyiv and you see someone drop his or her wallet near you, don’t be a good Samaritan and pick it up for him or her as this is a notorious scam in the capital. These scammers target and mark tourists, who they would walk in front of then “accidentally” drop their wallet in hopes of the tourist picking it up and returning it. The scammer would then appear thankful but will proceed to count the money and say that some of his money is missing. A fake policeman would then appear and demand to see the tourist’s wallet. The “policeman” would then discreetly pocket some of the cash during inspection, after which he would say that the tourist didn’t take the money and can now go.
