For ID purposes, don’t forget to carry your passport with you at all times as the police can conduct passport checks on foreign nationals, especially in the capital of Kyiv. When doing so, the police officers normally introduce themselves, mentioning their rank and the reason for checking the ID and would show you a document that verifies their authority or position. There shouldn’t be any problem if your papers are in order and you’ll be sent on your way. However, there’s the possibility of being detained in the event that you are unable to show your original passport, as they would have to confirm your legal status in the country.
