45. Clean and Protect Showerheads

Showerheads, being constantly exposed to water, are prone to rust and corrosion. Faucets, and other metal bathroom fittings, are constantly exposed to moisture and water, which is why they should be protected. This is because minerals found in water, such as calcium, build-up on their surfaces, forming unsightly scales which can also destroy them. Replacing damaged bathroom fittings can be a hassle, not to mention, expensive.
Moisture also causes rust and corrosion, both of which damage fittings. Rust or iron oxide forms when iron comes into contact with the oxygen found in air and water. Rust decreases the strength of the metal and if given enough time, anything that has iron in it, will eventually turn into rust and fall apart.
Cleaning showerheads, faucets, etc. with WD-40 will remove stubborn lime deposits and rust, leaving them looking like new, protecting them from the effects of residual water, and making them last longer.
