Some kitchen utensils aren’t made of stainless steel, hence, prone to rust and corrosion. Metal objects often lose their beauty once corrosion and rust set in. 
Rust forms when iron (commonly found in steel) becomes exposed to oxygen and water. Given enough time, anything made out of metal will eventually lose their beauty thanks to rust. 
Treating your kitchen utensils with WD-40 before keeping them makes them water-resistant, preventing them from forming rust. This makes them last longer in storage until the time you need them again. 
When it’s time to use them, just make sure to give them a good wash.
