44. Clean and Lubricate Guitar Strings

Aside from a guitarist’s skill, there are other things that make a guitar sound great, and one of them is maintenance.
Guitar maintenance is something that many musicians tend to overlook. This is because guitarists prefer spending their time practicing instead of keeping their instruments in order. Part of keeping a guitar working properly is making sure that the strings are taken care of and tuned.
Keeping the strings on a guitar lubricated and clean will help them last and sound good longer. Applying a small amount of WD-40 onto a clean piece of cloth and wiping the strings with it does the trick. Clean strings will prevent them from rusting and will allow you to move your fingers smoothly along their length.
Just be careful not to touch the wooden parts of the instrument as WD-40 might eat into the surface finish.
