Think the Older Men Are Hitting on You

There is a good chance, if you are a lady, that an older Polish gentleman you meet will take your hand and kiss it. Don’t get ahead of yourself and turn red in the face, assuming that the poor old man is hitting on you. He isn’t. He is merely practicing a form of etiquette that is all but lost in today’s modern world, replaced by less-warmer, and much-more impersonal handshake. The endearing gesture is actually a display of respect and gallantry directed towards the opposite sex.

If they were more familiar with you, let’s say them being a close friend, or a member of the family, you’ll probably get a kiss on your cheek, rather than on your hand.
