People tend to think of cowboys as local heroes riding up on their steeds, wearing their hats and looking brave and fearless. While a part of that may be true, they also stunk like nobody’s business. There’s actually a saying in cowboy history that says “smelling like a horse.” And while some think of it as a cute phrase, its origins come from the days when cowboys would be out riding on the trail for days. When they’d get back home, they smelled so horrific since they wouldn’t shower or bathe for days on end. And more often than not, they would arrive with strep or staph infections from being so filthy.
