Considering that cleanliness was not exactly required, most cowboy settlements were riddled with disease. And while some were a minor issue, others had life threatening side effects. One particular disease that affected both natives and settlers was cholera, which was deadlier than most. This was mostly due to the horrific and unsanitary living conditions at the time as well. In fact, disease was so rampant that it was more surprising when you’d come upon a cowboy settlement that wasn’t riddled by illness.
