Their Dentists Were Also Their Barbers

Back in the day, before there were fancy chairs or instruments to use in the dentistry profession, most people just lost their teeth or pulled them out when there were issues. And since being a dentist wasn’t exactly a popular job back in the Wild West, most barbers took on the job of being a dentist as well. This meant that when cowboys with toothaches came into town, they would head over to the nearest barber to get their tooth extracted before it could become infected or too painful to deal with. Heck, they probably got a trim at the same time too!
