At one point in time, alcohol was illegal and prohibited within the United States. This is when the black market trade exploded, all due to the fact that people needed their daily fix of alcohol. In order to stay out of trouble, men did their illegal deliveries at night to attempt to avoid the law. Most smugglers used “cow shoes” to trick the authorities, disguising their regular foot tracks with those that looked like they were made by cow hoofs instead.
