Clean Water Was Hard to Come By

Boredom Files

People tend to take fresh water for granted these days, but during the Wild West, it was one of the hardest things to come by. The frontier was a dry and open prairie land that wasn’t exactly close to any pure and clean water sources, that was until streams were built closer to the towns where people lived. And for water sources that could be found nearby, since they had outhouses and horses to take care of, the water wasn’t always the cleanest either. Even rain water that was collected turned rancid after some time. But given that people needed water, any water, to simply survive, they had to use whatever water they could find regardless of what was in it.
