One of the most prominent characteristics of a cowboy’s life was how much time they spent drinking. And back in the day, the alcohol content was way stronger than it is today, even if vodka is 80 proof! To prove our point, they had two particularly popular drinks called “firewater,” which was made from a combination of alcohol, tobacco and burnt sugar. The other one, “cactus wine,” was made from tequila and peyote tea. It was one sure way of making them forget about the germ infested beds they were forced to sleep in.
