Aside from Johnny Depp, celebrity notables from Kentucky include: George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence, and Chris Stapleton. Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, as the youngest of four children. His mother worked as a waitress, and his dad was a civil engineer. Although he was born in Kentucky, his family moved around a bit, until they settled in Florida. However, Depp has always kept in touch with his roots in Kentucky, and purchased a 40-acre horse farm in the Bluegrass state for his mother (which he recently sold). Depp has been nominated for 10 Golden Globe Awards, winning one for best actor in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. His rise to prominence may be attributed to the 1980s television series 21 Jump Street. He has also performed in numerous musical groups, including the rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.
