“Sweet Home Alabama.” Just to borrow the title of a popular song, but it was the sweet home of a well known singer that grew up in Tuskegee, Alabama. We are talking about Lionel Ritchie. He actually grew up on the campus of the Tuskegee Institute, where his grandfather had worked with the college’s founder, Booker T. Washington. He met some freshmen when he was enrolled who were setting up a singing group and approached him because they heard he had a saxophone. He eventually left school to pursue his dream in the music industry as a member of the popular Commodores. Since then, Lionel has had several hits including the chart topper “All Night Long.” He explains his exposure to different genres of music helped him evolve as a musician.” My grandmother is a classical pianist.
