Fires Joining Together To Form A Mega-Blaze

Source: https://www.ctvnews.ca

As if the bushfires were not wild enough, a mega-blaze was formed by a “finger” of the East Ournie Creek blaze merging with another fire then connecting with the Dunns Road fire near the border of New South Wales and Victoria. The blaze, which is said to be over three times bigger that any recorded wildfire in California, spans more than 2,400 square miles. This is actually the second mega-blaze of the ongoing season, following the Gospers Mountain mega-blaze started by a lightning strike in October then merged with others in December, which consumed an area seven times the size of Singapore. The situation is not helped by the shifting of the winds that spread the fire in different directions, making it more challenging to contain.
