Hundreds Of Thousands Of Fish Are Dead

Even those living in the water were not spared by the devastating effects of the bushfires, as
hundreds of thousands of native fish have been estimated to have perished since December, especially in the northern part of New South Wales after the recent heavy rains washed the ash and mud from the bushfire-burnt lands straight into the Macleay River. A favorite of recreational fishermen, the Macleay River, or at least parts of it, have now been turned into a sludge that stinks of dead and rotting fish, combined with the stench of the ash, fire retardant, and rotting vegetation, with the effects said to be possibly felt years to come.
