Bullmastiffs were originally a cross between bulldogs and mastiffs. These big and muscular dogs can stand as tall as 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh over 100 pounds. They are affectionate with their owners, but if not properly socialized, they may be suspicious of everyone and can pose a danger to strangers. They are known to ferociously protect their family and home, and they will most likely attack when they or their family are threatened. In 2014, about 5% of recorded fatal dog attacks in the United States were caused by Bullmastiffs.
