Basenjis, which originate from Central Africa, are reputed to not be able to bark. Instead, they growl and scream when threatened. They are very energetic and territorial, and they usually destroy everything in their path. Although affectionate with their family, Basenjis can also be standoffish and aggressive toward strangers. They were originally bred as hunting dogs, but they are extremely difficult to train, making them completely unpredictable even to experienced dog handlers.
