Leonardo da Vinci is still considered the greatest painter of all time, as well as notably the “most diversely talented person to have ever lived.” While the Mona Lisa is probably his most popular work, the Vitruvian Man is a close second. The Codex Hammer is an incredibly detailed journal where da Vinci wrote some of his thoughts and drew a number of his illustrations, and it was only one of 30 known journals that the artist had. The Codex Hammer was first obtained by a British nobleman back in 1717, and eventually the world’s 2nd richest man in the world, Bill Gates, bought it for $30,802,000, which he then digitally scanned and shared with the rest of the world.
