One of Hollywood’s most highly respected and versatile actors, Morgan Freeman has performed countless roles on screen from children’s TV shows to Oscar-winning blockbusters. However, despite his early passion for acting, Freeman turned down a drama scholarship and joined the US Air Force after high school to become a fighter pilot. He soon realized that he wouldn’t get to do what he wanted—flying—because he was relegated to the ground as a mechanic and radar technician, plus he didn’t want to shoot down other people, so he returned to acting.
Freeman is best known for starring in many well-regarded motion pictures such as Driving Miss Daisy, Million Dollar Baby, The Shawshank Redemption, Glory, Deep Impact, and The Dark Knight trilogy. He is also highly recognized for his distinct “godly” voice, with his booming and commanding presence in Bruce Almighty and his eloquent narration in the sci-fi action film War of the Worlds and the Academy Award-winning documentary March of the Penguins.
