Before the songs “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Bed of Roses,” and “Bad Medicine” filled the airwaves, John Francis Bongiovi Jr. who started playing in clubs when he was only 16 was also sweeping floors at his cousin’s recording studio, Power Station. He recorded his first single “Runaway” at the same studio, and in 1983, the young singer-songwriter first gained attention when a local radio station included his song on a compilation tape and got frequent airplay. In the same year, with other founding members, guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alec John Such, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres, the band Bon Jovi was formed.

Also, before Bon Jovi’s success with the band’s self-titled debut, the frontman of the Grammy Award-winning rock band had a humble job making Christmas decorations. Jon Bon Jovi has since moved on from making Christmas ornaments to making Yuletide hits, such as “Please Come Home For Christmas” and “I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas.”

Today, the American musician, actor, producer, and philanthropist has sold over 130 million albums worldwide with his band, has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and is recognized in Billboard Magazine’s “Power 100” as one of the most powerful and influential people in the music business.
