Johnny Depp Dropped Out Of High School And Joined A Band

Before the American actor, musician, and producer landed his first legitimate movie role being eaten by his bed in Nightmare in Elm Street, Johnny Depp was a high school dropout who joined a garage band named The Kids. Barely making ends meet with his band’s music, he lived for months in his friend’s car. Depp also worked a telemarketer, but he wasn’t good at it and closed only one sale.

Depp’s rise to stardom began when he starred as an undercover cop in a high school operation in the TV series 21 Jump Street. After deciding to only appear in films that he felt suited him, he successfully portrayed several eccentric characters that made him even more popular, including Tim Burton’s unfinished creation with scissors for hands Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow, the Mad Hatter in the live-action fantasy film Alice in Wonderland, and Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
