The funny, quirky, and incredibly kind American comedian, actress, and TV host, Ellen DeGeneres, began her career in the early 1980s as a stand-up comic. Since starring in the sitcom Ellen and hosting the successful variety comedy talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she has received wide exposure and was asked to host many award shows, including the 2005 Primetime Emmy Awards and the 86th Academy Awards where she orchestrated a group selfie that became the second-most retweeted tweet ever. DeGeneres is also the first actress to win a Saturn Award for a voice performance for her supporting role in Finding Nemo.
Before earning over $70 million annually for her talk show, DeGeneres was a college dropout juggling different odd jobs, waiting on tables, shucking oysters, bartending, painting houses, working as a legal secretary, and selling vacuum cleaners. She started working on her comedy routine in her early 20s and performed just for friends and at local coffee shops.
Today’s 15th highest-paid entertainer in the world, DeGeneres is also an animal lover, a vegan, a humanitarian, and a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign’s Coming Out Project.
