Before the American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer rose to fame for his role in the television sitcom Taxi which won him Golden Globe and Emmy awards, Daniel Michael DeVito Jr. worked at a local mortuary, curling dead women’s hair to help make them look good for their funeral. His sister, Angie, who was a hairdresser and salon owner, trained him and sent him to beauty school.
Born with Fairbank’s Disease, a genetic disorder that affected bone growth, the diminutive DeVito had longed be taller in his youth, but the kid that was once bullied because of his condition turned out to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and major producers. Over the past four decades, DeVito was featured in massive blockbusters, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Romancing the Stone and its sequel The Jewel of the Nile, Twins, and The War of the Roses. DeVito also made a mark with his amazing portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin in Batman Returns.
