Blonde, statuesque, and gorgeous, the South African-born actress rose to international fame with her lead roles in the Devil’s Advocate, Mighty Joe Young, and The Cider House Rules. Charlize Theron received critical acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the biographical crime drama film Monster.

Though Theron started her career as a model, winning the International New Model Today competition in Italy, she had wanted to pursue her first love—dancing. She moved to New York to study at the Joffrey Ballet School, but her dream to become a dancer was cut short because of severe knee injuries.
