Resist Fascism

This is a photo of one man in a crowd, refusing to do the Nazi salute, back in 1936. While his identity was never confirmed, it is believed his name was August Landmesser. He was a worker at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, where he conspicuously refused to do the Nazi salute with the other workers. Landmesser was also in trouble with the Nazi party over his unlawful relationship with a Jewish woman by the name of Irma Eckler. Landmesser was imprisoned, then drafted into penal military service, where he was killed in action on 17 October 1944. Eckler on the other hand was sent to a concentration camp where it is believed she died.
