Dam Teamwork

Reddit

This is a photo of the Hoover Dam, formerly the Boulder Dam, having its pillars filled with concrete. During the Great Depression, it was too expensive for a single company to undertake the construction of the dam, so six different firms banded together to form Six Companies, submitting a winning bid of $48.8 Million, which was considered at the time to be the largest contract awarded by the federal government. A total of 21,000 men worked on the dam, with at least 3,500 men on the dam each day. Contrary to popular belief, no workers were buried alive in the concrete as it was being poured, although there were at least 96 confirmed deaths throughout the dam’s construction.
