Six Flags at Half Mast

Time INC

This is a picture of the surreal abandoned attractions in Six Flags Over New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Six Flags New Orleans (SFNO) was a 140-acre theme park which first opened in 2000, but has since closed due to flood damage and lack of funds. Despite various proposals to redevelop the site, SFNO has remained abandoned, overgrown with plants and vegetation, and infested with wildlife. In July of 2019, the mayor of New Orleans announced that the government would explore the possibility of demolishing the site, as reports were lodged with the government, complaining that the wildlife and overall condition of the park were disturbing local residents. Analysts have estimated that it may cost around $1.3 million to demolish the park.
