This is a photo of the great beauty Sofia Loren looking at Jayne Mansfield in a very particular manner. At the time, Loren was the most photographed performer at the Cannes Festival, and a party was thrown in Beverly Hills to welcome her to Hollywood. But instead of Loren being the focus of the party, Mansfields “great assets” instead stole the show. In an interview, Loren said, “Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid that they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow and spill all over the table.”
