The lighthouse Þrídrangaviti (pronounced “Thridrang”) can be found in the Westman Islands, around six miles from the main shore of Iceland. It is known as being the most isolated lighthouse in the world, and was built in 1939 without helicopters. People scaled the cliffs, built roads, and even made human chains in order to reach the top so that the first road could be built. Þrídrangar means “three rock pillars”.
