The Berlin Wall was hastily erected overnight, separating a lot of families. This is the photo of an East German soldier helping a little boy cross the wall back into East Berlin to be with the rest of his family. Despite the orders issued by the East German government that no one was allowed to pass into East Berlin, a young soldier was caught doing just this — not just on camera, but by his superior officer. The soldier was removed from his unit, and hopefully lived a long and fulfilling life.
