Millard Fillmore (149)

Wikipedia

The 13th President, the last Whig President, and the last president not to be affiliated with either the Republican or Democratic parties. Being the son of sharecroppers, he could not afford to go to school but studied on his own, and eventually became a lawyer. He ran as vice-president for Zachary Taylor, and assumed the presidency when Taylor died. When Fillmore took his oath as President, cabinet members of the previous administration tendered their resignations, as was common courtesy practice, hoping Fillmore would retain them But Fillmore accepted their resignations. He is the only President who succeeded by death or resignation, did not retain his predecessor’s cabinet. He was instrumental in getting the Compromise of 1850 passed, which led to a brief truce in the battle over slavery.
