Wikipedia

Popularly known as FDR, he served as the 32nd President from 1933 until his death in 1945. His legs were permanently paralyzed from an illness in 1921. He took office during the Great Depression, the worst economic crisis in US history. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he declared war on the Japanese, and within a few days on Germany and Italy as well, signalling the start of World War II. He died in April 1945, shortly before seeing the Axis powers surrender to the Allied Forces.
