The Face of Defiance

Horizon Times

One of the most famous names in the French resistance was Georges Blind. This photo was taken back in 1944 and it shows him facing a German mock firing squad, where he was made to stand at the corner to lessen the chances of bullets ricocheting off the building and hitting the soldiers after they fire. Although it was a simulated moment, what wasn’t fake was his smile, as well as how he was handed over to a concentration camp and eventually died there. It might have all been for show, but this photo will forever go down in history as a man holding on to both his dignity and his last remaining pride in life.
