Otherwise known as the Nazi salute, the “Heil Hitler” is one of the most infamous acknowledgments that the world has ever known. It was also the German Fuhrer Adolf Hitler’s demand that all would acknowledge him and his government this way. Although during the days and years leading up to the war, it was also considered a sign of respect, oftentimes it was done out of reverence as much as it was done out of fear. This photo shows an American Soldier doing the Nazi salute, but not out of veneration, but in fact, he was doing the exact opposite.
