Probably one of the most iconic photographs to ever come out of World War II, this picture was snapped on the day that Japan surrendered to the United States. Legend has it that this couple wasn’t actually a couple! This sailor had supposedly just gotten off the ship and was walking through the city streets of New York when he saw one of the women celebrating and took her in his arms for a kiss. Thankfully, it was snapped up by a photographer and has been plastered over buildings, walls, streets worldwide ever since as a reminder of joy and celebration.
