Although France declared war on the Germans in 1939, unfortunately they lost their ground not too long after, and fell to the Nazi regime. While this photograph has a number of faces on the print, the only one you’ll notice – at first at least – is the man in the center whose face says it all. This French man wept for his country, in fear and anguish, as he came to terms with the fact that his country was no longer his and that his life and the lives of his loved ones were now in danger.
