Female Soviet Army Tank Commander

Horizon Times

During the mid-century, there weren’t as many women that served on the frontlines in the army as there are now, but it doesn’t mean that there were none. Many of them were also nurses that were stationed at the camps to care for the men that came back injured. But one such female, Aleksandra Samusenko, she was not only an officer in the Soviet Army, she also happened to be a Tank Commander, which wasn’t common back then. Although her commander was killed during an ambush during the Battle of Kursk, she successfully brought her crew to safety.
