At first, you might think that you are looking at someone holding up some pieces of metal that were kept in a box, but upon closer inspection, you soon realize that what’s actually sitting in this man’s hands are hundreds, if not thousands, of wedding rings from the Jews that the Nazis killed. The holocaust not only caused the deaths of millions of Jews, but the Nazis stole their personal belongings, their money, basically anything that they could call their own. This photo is so simple, but probably one of the most impactful images to ever come out of the second world war about just how horrifying it really was.
