While Air Koryo’s record of not having major fatal remains untarnished, no other good thing can probably be said of the IOSA-certified North Korean airline.
In 2006, the European Union revoked Air Koryo’s permits that allowed the company to operate from all EU airports. This was after European aviation officials discovered that the airline company had been using non-compliant safety equipment in all their aircraft, forcing the Pyongyang based airliner to revise their safety measures. It was also found out that the airline had been operating old Russian-made planes in its fleet, leading to it losing one more of its already few safety stars.
Another reason to avoid flying on Air Koryo is the company’s choice of inflight entertainment, which is said to be comprised of state-sponsored propaganda videos in praise of the Kim family’s overblown achievements.
