Beluga Caviar

Caviar Russe

Beluga caviar is a delicacy enjoyed all over the world, and until the year 2005, the United States consumed at least 60% of the world’s supply. Considered a luxury, this type of caviar isn’t actually from beluga whales as many assume, but actually from the beluga sturgeon fish. But all of this changed after an article was released by the New York Times, which reported that the United States Fish and Wildlife Service chose to ban the import of beluga products from countries located near the Caspian Sea. This was due to their failure to abide by the fishing rules, which led to overfishing, leaving the species’ close to extinction.
