Lead is a metal that was used in a number of products like house paint, pencils and children’s books to name a few. That was until it was found out that lead is incredibly harmful and that it shouldn’t be near kids or adults alike. When a 2009 New York Daily News report was released about the need to regulate lead-based products, a number of libraries had to pull out certain children’s books that were printed before the year 1985 due to the fact that publisher’s used lead during manufacturing. Many libraries removed books from 1985 – which is the same year lead was taken out of book production – including titles belonging to Dr. Seuss and E.B. White.
