Bushmeat

The Atlantic

Bushmeat has been a staple of the indigenous people of Africa, and it doesn’t pertain to one type of meat. It’s actually an all-around title for anything caught and killed in the African wilderness to be used as food, including monkeys, bats and even lions. Bushmeat has been banned for import into the United States due to a couple of reasons. One, because of the environmental concerns and implications, and secondly, because it can spread harmful bacteria and diseases, including Ebola and now, Covid-19. For some, it is considered a delicacy, and can even capture a price of $100 for just six to seven pounds after being illegally smuggled into the country.
