Non-Irradiated Mangosteen

Cloudfront

If you’ve never had mangosteen, it has hard purple skin and white fruit inside that’s tangy and sweet. A native of Thailand and a number of other Southeast Asian countries, mangosteen is known for a number of health benefits including being full of antioxidants, low in calories and high in anti-inflammatory properties. Unfortunately, it was banned from import into the United States due to the fruit being prone to Asian fruit flies. Because of this, the United States only allows mangosteen into the country if it has first been irradiated in order to kill any insects it may contain.
